Damage Collection/Blender Pack

A collection of film scans and analog video effects , tailored towards usage within Blender, either as the basis for texturing and material creation, or for use within the VSE or compositor.

Themed around severe film damage, this collection is ideal for grunge and damaged film elements in any graphics/motion graphics or editing project. Used as overlays, the clips can effect underlying elements in quite extreme ways.

Used as backgrounds, textures or projectors, these clips and the image textures can be combined to create various lo fi effects. All clips are either 24/25p, supplied in .mov (h264) format and a mixture of resolutions from SD to 4K.

Damage Collection

If you are working with any other NLE or Motion Graphics software and/or just need straight ProRes files to work with, then the Damage Collection version is recommended. This version contains none of the Blender related content, but contains 37 video files, mostly encoded as ProRes, along with 40 HQ jpeg scans.

The majority of the clips were either hand animated or telecine scanned. The effects include bucket processed film, frame slippage, flickering highlights, reshot screens and heavily scratched screens. For some of the techniques that go into their creation, take a look at this blog post.

Sratchtapes

The term scratch tapes, comes from early computer days, where tape drives were used for dumping of data for re use later. When I started out as an editor, cutting on linear tape based systems, I ended up creating and carrying around a selection of tapes containing effects and footage that could be re used in other edits. Examples of the stuff I used to keep on these tapes are: Film grain, flashes and clutter, light leaks, video feedback, background plates, lighting/flare effects and so on..

Blender Feedback

There are several .blend files included, intended either as starting points, or just as demos to see the ways these files can used. I've also created a basic asset pack, which I will expand over the next few months if this proves useful.

I'm offering this pack initially at a low $5.00 intro price and would ideally like to receive feedback from users on what could be improved or how they would likely use them? Please reach out if you have any suggestions!
